- Event Messaging/Poster Design
NEKTR was a DC-based genre-bending duo that combines the worlds of live improvisation and digital soundscapes to create a modern sonic experience.
In Spring 2023, I was brought on to help create and curate the duo’s artistic direction. This included photography, identity design, and advertisement design.
Language: Strong, Powerful, Disruptive
I was inspired to design the duo’s primary wordmark based on the geometric structure typical of audiovisual identities (i.e. Bose). Leaning on this nostalgic design choice represents the duo’s individual roots in musical tradition and audio production. The wordmark’s wide letterform is dramatic, yet modern and minimalist.
I took it a step further and incorporated open slits to reflect the disruptive nature of improvisational and experimental music - the spirit of NEKTR’s live performances.

Language: Spunky, Eclectic, Technical
The secondary design (above), also geometric in structure, leans on the playfulness of monocase. Each letter begins with a serif-like feature reminiscent of noteheads in a note, unifying the sequence of letters as one body of work.
Language: Brutalist, Raw, Bold
For a performance at The Kreeger Museum, I designed a poster advertising the event to be ironic, raw, bold, and most importantly, fun. Simplicity is key; only information needed to get to the event is needed.
Additionally, the contrast with the Foxhall neighborhood’s historic, Tudor Revival-esuqe, leafy charm aims to invite curiosity as to what NEKTR is all about.
