project recap: 2023 Spring Hike with Arc’teryx DC

Arc’teryx DC is the design brand’s store servicing the Washington, DC area. 

In spring 2023, I organized and led a hike to promote wellness, share my passion for hiking, and foster diversity and inclusion in the outdoor recreational space.


 

Language: Adventure, Play, Ruggedness



I wanted the primary visual and focal point of the event to invite the kid in all of us to play and explore. I incorporated a hand-drawn illustration (also by me!) and used images of spring and the Arc’teryx Norvan shoe to unite the event’s intention with brand lexicon. 

Choice of lettering is driven by textures and feelings evoked from summer camp activities, coloring book pages, and soiled clothes from a whole day spent outside.

In addition to leading the hike and providing my insights as an experienced hiker, I filmed and edited content to socialize the success of the event. Although using a camcorder offered the convenience I needed to manage the hike in real time, its grainy, raw, and nostalgic effect captured the event’s mission.

For the video’s title card, I incorporated visuals from the event poster: lettering and a hand-drawn illustration.
